TEMPE, AZ — Thousands of people attended the Awaken 2020 event in Tempe Saturday.
The free 12-hour event was held at Arizona State University's Sun Devil Stadium in downtown Tempe.
Kanye West performed around 4:45 p.m. for about 30 minutes with his Sunday Service Choir. West performed a version of "Jesus Walks" before sharing a short message.
"I really enjoyed it. I like the spiritual experience," said Raymi Evans, who attended the event. "I got goosebumps. I really heard the word."
"I thought it was really interesting. Number one he didn't seem to center it around himself," said Sharon Poland.

Event holders released the following statement about the event, meant to emphasize love and unity:
"Awaken 2020 invited Kanye West to headline our Awaken 2020 event because we believe God has given Kanye a powerful platform to share his personal testimony with the world and to showcase the love, grace, and redeeming power of God by lifting up the name of Jesus. Like Kanye, Awaken 2020 has no place for affiliation of hate or harm toward any other person."
