Tempe Police Department detectives are investigating after two people were shot and killed in a parking lot on Thursday night.

Just after 11 p.m. Tempe officers were called to Garden Grove Apartment Homes on 900 West Grove Parkway, near Kyrene and Elliot roads, after a caller reported hearing gunshots.

A Tempe Police Department spokesperson confirms to ABC15 upon arrival officers found two people dead inside a car in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

A spokesperson for the Tempe Union High School District released the following statement on behalf of McClinktock High School and the district Friday afternoon:

Our hearts are broken at the news of the tragic loss of two young lives. McClintock Junior Kayon Williams was well-liked by everyone who knew him. He has been described as funny and loved to make people laugh. The entire McClintock family is devastated by his death. As always, enough cannot be said about the professionalism and dedication of the Tempe Police Department and we appreciate their efforts on this matter. We ask for time and space needed by students and staff to mourn this loss. We hope that anyone with information about this crime will immediately contact Tempe Police.

Tempe police is asking for the public's help to find a suspect. This does not appear to be a random act of violence.
