Thousands of American flags are on display at Tempe Beach Park to honor and remember the victims of the attack on September 11, 2001.

Volunteers spend hours preparing the Tempe Healing Field annually. They set up the massive flag display on Saturday morning.

"Seventeen years have passed since the terrible attacks on September 11, 2001 and we are still saddened by the horrific events of that morning," said Mayor Mark Mitchell in a press release. "Tempe is honored to be part of this unique event that gives community members the opportunity to remember those who lost their lives and reflect on the freedom we share as citizens of this great nation."

This year, there will be several scheduled events for the public to attend at the Healing Field.

Tuesday, Sept. 11: 5:46 a.m. -- Tribute ceremony with presentation of colors, music, prayer and reading of names of first responders who lost their lives on 9-11

Tuesday, Sept. 11: 7 p.m. -- Candlelight vigil with music, prayer and keynote speaker Stacey Goodman.
