TEMPE, AZ — A pedestrian is fighting for his life after he was struck by a car in Tempe Sunday night.

The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. near Mill and Southern avenues.

Witnesses told officers the man was pushing an empty wheelchair across Mill Avenue when he was hit.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck the man, later identified as 32-year-old Hitesh Jani, contacted Tempe police after he returned home and reported that he was involved in the collision. Jani was arrested for failure to render aid at the scene of an injury collision.

The pedestrian is not being identified at this time and remains in stable, but serious condition.
