Two DPS troopers are lucky to have only suffered very minor injuries after an impaired driver slammed into their vehicles overnight on southbound Loop 101.
The crash occurred after 12:30 a.m. Saturday while the DPS officers were providing traffic control for an earlier crash near Guadalupe Road.
DPS says that while both fully marked cars were blocking the freeway, an impaired driver crashed into both cars. Fortunately, neither of the troopers were injured enough to receive medical attention.
A civilian also in one of the DPS vehicles escaped unharmed.
The impaired driver was reportedly taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, southbound lanes are closed at Guadalupe, but drivers can get around the closure using the on- and off-ramps.
ADOT says the freeway is expected to remain closed at least until mid morning.
