A professor of medievalist history at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus is no longer holding his post after allegations surfaced that he sexually abused minors decades ago.

An ASU spokesperson released a statement on Friday saying as of Thursday, Lara is “no longer affiliated with Arizona State University.”

The move comes after the Dioceses of Brooklyn released a statement earlier this week saying Lara, who was ordained in 1973, was in active ministry until he was removed in 1992.

The statement went on to say that “This action (to be laicized by the Holy Father) was communicated via an ecclesiastical decree issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which is the  Vatican office authorized to deal with cases involving sexual abuse of minors by a cleric.”

No additional information was immediately available.
