A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy was injured during an assault by a mother and her daughter in Walmart on Saturday.

PCSO reported that the deputy was responding to a shoplifting report at the Walmart near N. Gary Road and Hunt Highway at about 4:20 p.m. in San Tan Valley.

The security officers at the Walmart reported that the juvenile daughter of Katrina Williams, 38, attempted to shoplift a gift card and makeup, and Williams made her return the items. However, security officers said the two refused to stay on scene to await law enforcement.

The deputy reported that they attempted to leave the parking lot, which led him to stop the vehicle in another parking lot across the street.

Williams was uncooperative with the deputy which hindering the investigation, PCSO said. The deputy struggled to get Williams and her daughter to cooperate, and eventually deployed his Taser. With the help of a citizen, the deputy was able to safely take her into custody.

PCSO reported that the deputy suffered an injury during the struggle.
