MESA — A suspected drunk driver has been detained after reportedly crashing into a Burger King building in Mesa, police say.

The Mesa Police Department says the suspected drunk driver pulled up to the drive-through at the Burger King located near University Drive and Lindsay Road.

The employees of the Burger King suspected the driver was impaired, according to police, and asked the driver to pull around the building to park and wait for their order.

While the driver was pulling around the building, Burger King employees called police.

Before police arrived on scene, the suspected drunk driver pulled into a parking spot, jumped over the divider, and hit the wall of the Burger King.

Police say a person inside the fast-food restaurant was injured during the crash and was transported to an area hospital with a serious leg injury.

The suspected drunk driver was detained by police, who are continuing to investigate the crash.
