MESA, AZ — An armed man is in custody after a barricade situation in Mesa Sunday afternoon.

Mesa police were called to a home near Main Street and Gilbert Road after the man's parents called police to say the man may have fired a gun inside their home.

When officers arrived on scene, the heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the home, according to Detective Chris Adamczyk.

Neighbors also reported hearing several loud "banging" noises coming from the home, said Adamczyk.

The Mesa Police SWAT team was called to the scene and attempted negotiations with the man. SWAT teams used a diversion device called a flash-bang, after which the man surrendered himself to police.

The man is not being identified at this time.
