Maricopa County attorney Bill Montgomery announced Thursday that charges will not be filed in the fatal shooting of Ivan Kristic by Mesa police back in 2015.

The incident happened on December 3, 2015when police responded to a call of a suspicious man walking around a gated community holding a metal pipe near Power and McDowell roads.

Police say when officers arrived, they told 47-year-old Krstic to drop the pipe before shooting him with a stun gun when he did not comply. He then ran at the officers with the pipe, so officers shot at him. Krstic later died from his injuries.

Krstic reportedly lived in the neighborhood and had threatened officers in the same area in August 2012. In that case, police say he had a large-caliber rifle and stated that he would use it if approached by police.
