Mesa police say they were involved in a deadly shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the incident happened at the Circle K near Greenfield and Baseline roads.

All officers are OK, police said.

Police said on Tuesday they received a call about an adult man, 30-year-old Kelvin Baldwin, who was accused of violating an order protection.

Baldwin was accused of contacting and threatening his estranged wife and responding officers, police said.

Police say during their investigation they learned the suspect obtained a weapon.

On Wednesday, officers were conducting surveillance on Baldwin, who reportedly has an extensive and violent criminal history.

Police say they "saw an opportunity" to approach the suspect as he came out of the gas station.

As officers confronted Baldwin, he reportedly drew his weapon and fired, prompting an officer to return fire.

A taser was also deployed at the scene, police said.

Baldwin was injured and taken to the hospital in serious condition, but later died from his injuries.

Police say a handgun was recovered at the scene.
