A man faces a total of seven charges in connection with two instances of meeting women for sex.

Mesa police say 29-year-old Darryl Payne, Jr. contacted two women through the website Backpage.com and arranged to meet them at an apartment. Payne agreed to pay them to have sex with him, according to court documents.

When asked for the money, the victims told police Payne refused and forced them to have sex with him. The victims said they were afraid they would be physically hurt if they refused, and said Payne blocked their ability to leave the apartment.

Investigators say he told them he contacted the women and asked they come to his apartment. He admitted to having sex with them, but denied preventing them from leaving.

He also told police he did not pay the women the full amount because they did not stay the full hour as previously agreed, according to a probable cause statement.

Payne faces four counts of sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping and one count of sexual abuse, all felonies.

A judge set his bond at $100,000, and said he would be subject to a curfew and electronic monitoring if released.
