MESA, AZ — The City of Mesa says 2018 was a record-setting year for Mesa Gateway Airport.

According to a news release, a record 1,531,648 passengers traveled through the airport in 2018.

This surpasses the previous high set in 2012 by more than 10 percent.

In addition, Allegiant Airlines has announced two new nonstop services from Gateway Airport to Grand Junction, Colorado and Kalispell, Montana.

"Today's announcement by Gateway Airport is great news for air travelers looking for value and convenience when they need to fly," said Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy, chair of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. "Each additional flight attracted to Gateway Airport improves access and provides tremendous economic benefit for the entire region."

The new flights will be twice weekly, nonstop flights beginning in April and May.

Sky Harbor Airport has not released its 2018 data but is expected to later this month.
