A man has drowned at the Salt River, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, a spokesperson for MCSO, tweeted on Tuesday that the body of a 43-year-old man had been recovered by MCSO's Lake Patrol.

According to officials, Nicasio Lopez was attempting to get trash out of the water near Blue Point Bridge when he fell in and did not resurface for more than 20 minutes.

The man's body resurfaced down stream, officials said. However, MCSO later said the man did not know how to swim.

Life-saving efforts were performed on the man, but he was pronounced dead.

The drowning call was reported just before 2 p.m.

Officials said the man was with family at the time of the incident and that foul play is not suspected.
