The Arizona Department of Public Safety has arrested the man accused of causing a crash on the Loop 202 near Val Vista Drive by driving the wrong way on Thursday.
Capt. Damon Cecil said 35-year-old Daniel J. Bergstrom was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of aggravated DUI, endangerment and criminal damage.
Authorities suspect Bergstrom was impaired "by a substance(s) other than alcohol" when they say he ran a red light and entered the freeway.
Bergstrom attempted to turn around, but instead did a complete spin before colliding with another vehicle.
Firefighters said one person suffered minor injuries in the crash, which closed a portion of the highway for nearly five hours.
