A high school teacher in Mesa accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student has changed his plea to guilty in his case.

Sheron Butler pleaded guilty to furnishing obscene material and to two counts of attempt to commit sexual conduct with a minor, a spokesperson for Maricopa County Superior Court said Wednesday.

His sentencing his scheduled for May 16.

Butler, 39, was the football coach and a math teacher at Sequoia Charter Schools. He was arrested last year and fired after a student told a camp counselor that she was in a sexual relationship with one of her teachers.

At the time, Butler was booked into jail on four counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

ABC15 looked into Butler's personnel file and found that he had been disciplined previous for "inappropriate interactions" on Facebook.
