A double amputee escaped a Mesa house fire with the help of a neighbor and DirecTV workers.

Officials say neighbor Topper Johnson saw smoke coming from the disabled veteran's home on Monday evening and flagged down a passing DirecTV vehicle for help.

Johnson says the men were able to break a window and pull the veteran to safety. Fire crews arrived minutes later.

Fire officials say one of the rescuers and the homeowner were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital to be checked out. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The victim is not being identified at this time.
