A felon has some tax season advice on how to properly dispose of sensitive paperwork.
“Buy [a shredder] and use it,” said David Hurley, who is in a Maricopa County jail on a charge of aggravated identity theft.
Hurley emerged from a dumpster near South Country Club Drive and West Southern Avenue in Mesa with a stash of tax documents including names, Social Security numbers, and bank account numbers, according to Hurley’s arrest paperwork.
He told Mesa police he had plans to sell the information to a friend who makes fake credit cards and checks, court paperwork said. Hurley told ABC15 Wednesday night that he only had good intentions with the paperwork; he planned to properly dispose of it.
Hurley’s convictions include felony forgery.
April 18 is the deadline to file 2015 tax returns.
