A difficult 12 months for a Chandler-area family got worse over the weekend with the theft of two motorcycles.

The motorcycles, one adult-sized and one for children, were stolen from Steven Richardson's home near Cooper and Riggs roads early Saturday morning, Richardson said.

Richardson's sons regularly rode the child-sized bike while he rode his own, making for quality father-son time.

"[The thieves] took memories, they took my boys' fun time," Richardson said.

The adult motorcycle was found badly damaged on Gila River Indian Community land, but the child's bike remains gone, Richardson said.

Surveillance video captured two thieves in the incident.

The theft comes nearly one year after Richardson was the victim of a violent crime.

Richardson was run over in a Chandler restaurant parking lot last April after he intervened in a domestic assault incident, according to court paperwork.

Cody Gibson was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after he took a plea deal in the case.

Richardson does not know if the two incidents are related, but believed someone had been watching his home.

"They had to have been casing the place for a while," Richardson said. "None of my other vehicles were touched."

Richardson said he was told one suspect in custody, but was not told that person's name.
