Chandler police say they have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection to a double homicide over the weekend.
Police say Taron Lavelle Watkins of Glendale faces multiple charges in connection to the crime.
Around 9 p.m. on Saturday officers responded to a shooting near Country Club Drive and Elliot Road.
First responders located a 20-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing a red sedan flee the scene.
Chandler police say during this time dispatchers put out information regarding the red sedan to nearby law enforcement agencies.
Mesa police then came into contact with two occupants of a red Toyota sedan near Alma School and Baseline roads.
Inside the car officers located an unknown aged female with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Detectives later confirmed that Watkins was involved in the incident and was identified as the possible shooter.
On Sunday afternoon Watkins was arrested in Scottsdale.
He was booked into jail on two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of prohibited possessor.
Police say detectives have not identified the female victim and are in the process of notifying next-of-kin for the male victim.
