Police say a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash in west Phoenix last week.

On May 25, a man was crossing McDowell Road near 51st Avenue when he was struck and killed by a blue SUV, authorities said. The driver did not stop and left the scene.

After the victim was first hit, he was struck a second time by a white vehicle, a police spokesperson said. That car also fled the scene but witnesses followed the driver and found the car abandoned nearby.

The driver of the second vehicle, 21-year-old Ramon Rivera, was arrested Saturday for allegedly leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death.

The first driver has yet to be located, officials said.

Family identified the victim as Lorenzo Davis Jr. A GofundMe has been set up in his name to help the family with funeral expenses.

Anyone with information about the deadly accident or the first suspect's whereabouts is urged to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

According to officials, Arizona has the highest amount of pedestrian deaths in relation to the state’s population.
