Police searching for man who robbed and assaulted Safeway worker

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is searching for a man who robbed a Safeway and assaulted an employee.

Authorities released surveillance video of the crime which they say happened on February 17 around 9:30 a.m.

It happened at the Safeway in west Phoenix near 83rd Avenue and Camelback.

Police say the suspect entered the store and selected numerous bottles of Tide and other items. When he attempted to exit the store without paying for the items an employee chased after him.

The video shows the suspect punch the employee several times.

He then ran away from the store carrying several items and through the parking lot before getting away.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 20-years-old, 5'10" tall, 160 pounds, moustache, and black or brown shaggy hair.

If you recognize him you're urged to call police at 480-WITNESS, a reward of $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
