Phoenix Police say a 24-year-old man is dead and a teen girl from Illinois is in extremely critical condition after a double shooting Friday night.

Illinois officials contacted Phoenix Police around 7 p.m. to check on a home near 42nd Avenue and Cactus Road where a missing 16-year-old girl was believed to be with her 24-year-old boyfriend.

The 24-year-old, identified by police as Alexander O'Neill, reportedly brought the teen from Illinois to Arizona. She was reported missing out of McHenry, Ill.

Officers found O'Neill's vehicle at the reported location around 9:15 p.m.

O'Neill's parents were talking with responding police through a locked iron gate outside the front door of the home when two gunshots were heard from inside.

When entry was made into the home, the 16-year-old was found with a critical gunshot wound and O'Neill was also found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

The girl was taken to the hospital where she remains in extremely critical condition.
