Authorities are investigating a crash in west Phoenix that left one man dead early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the area of 56th Avenue and McDowell Road around 1:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash.

According to a police spokesperson, a car on McDowell Road struck two other cars before hitting a fence and coming to a stop.

The 23-year-old driver was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries, police confirmed. Two passengers in his car also suffered critical but non-life threatening injuries during the accident.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Speed does appear to have played a role in the deadly accident.

The victim's name has not been released.
