Phoenix police: Pedestrian 'extremely critical' after being hit by vehicle

Police say a pedestrian has extremely critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle Saturday night.

Officers responded around 9:15 p.m. to the intersection of 27th Avenue and Indian School Road. Witnesses told police a man was crossing Indian School when he was hit by the vehicle, according to a police spokeswoman.

The victim was taken to the hospital with "extremely critical" injuries, police said. 

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is not suspected to have been impaired. Police said the pedestrian is suspected of being impaired.

The crash has caused traffic restrictions on Indian School from I-17 to 27th Avenue.
