PHOENIX — A woman pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car in west Phoenix early Wednesday morning.
Phoenix police say it happened near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road around 5:40 a.m.
A pickup truck was heading south on 51st Avenue when traffic began to slow and backed up due to a disabled vehicle in the curb lane.
The driver of the truck swerved to the left and hit another pickup truck that was traveling north on 51st Avenue.
After the crash, the pickup truck swerved to the right and hit the woman pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk near her disabled vehicle.
Both truck drivers stayed at the scene and police say there were no signs of impairment.
The woman killed has been identified as 30-year-old Alberta Lavetta Cons.
There were no other injuries reported.
An investigation remains underway.
