PD: Suspect detained following shooting near 70th Avenue and Indian School

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are identifying a young man shot and killed Saturday night near 70th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Officers responded to the area around 9:30 p.m for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived they found 24-year-old Adan Granillo with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Granillo allegedly assaulted a male inside an apartment, and a third male showed up to help.

A physical altercation then occurred between Granillo and the third person which resulted in shots fired, according to Phoenix police.

The second male was taken to a hospital for significant injuries related to the initial assault. His injuries are said to be non life-threatening.

The third male was detained for questioning but has since been released.

It's unclear how the three might have known each other or what the initial altercation was about.

Police say there are not believed to be any outstanding suspects.
