A man is in custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend’s child.

According to court paperwork, a school resource officer was notified by the school staff that a 5-year-old boy had bruising to his eye and to his nose.

The boy told staff members he was hit on his face by his mom’s boyfriend, 25-year-old Edilson Veletzuy and had a bruised eye and nose bleed.

The boy said Veletuzy hit him in his face after he walked into his bedroom at their house near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road.

The suspect went to police headquarters and later admitted to causing the boy’s injuries. He later wrote an apology letter for causing the injuries to the victim.

Veletuzy was booked into jail on one count of child abuse.
