PHOENIX — A man in his 20s is in extremely critical condition after the dirt bike he was riding collided with a car in west Phoenix Friday evening.

The incident happened around 4:40 p.m near 63rd Avenue and Broadway Road.

According to Phoenix police, the dirt bike rider "failed to yield" to a Nissan Altima making a left-hand turn at the intersection of 63rd Avenue and Broadway. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike and transported to an area hospital in extremely critical condition.

After the initial crash, the dirt bike collided with a Toyota Camry, which had a 10-year-old, 13-year-old and 15-year-old inside. The 41-year-old driver of the Camry and the three young passengers were not injured, police say.

Traffic was shut down on Broadway Road from 59th to 57th avenues while police worked to clear the scene.

The victim is not being identified at this time.
