PD: Man shot after pair tries to steal his car in west Phoenix

Officials are investigating a shooting in front of a home in west Phoenix. 

Phoenix police say a homeowner near 31st Avenue and Indian School walked to his car and found two transients, a 26-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, in his car. Police said the two suspects were attempting to steal the man's vehicle. 

According to police, there was an altercation between the homeowner, a 25-year-old man, and the transients. The male transient shot the homeowner.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He remains critical but is stable, police said. 

The suspects did flee from the scene but were later apprehended by police.

The investigation continues.
