Fight in Phoenix parking lot leaves one man dead

PHOENIX — A man is dead after being involved in a fight in West Phoenix on Saturday night.

Phoenix police say the man confronted his girlfriend and her friend in the parking lot of a food store near near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The 33-year-old man began to yell at his girlfriend and her friend, who were sitting in a vehicle.

The man grabbed the steering wheel of their car, attempted to jump into the vehicle via the driver's side window, and began assaulting the friend and the woman.

Police say the 32-year-old suspect told the boyfriend he had a gun, and threatened to shoot if the victim did not stop his assault.

According to the authorities, the victim refused and, "at some point, the suspect's gun discharged, striking the victim."

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the suspect called the police and waited for their arrival at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
