PHOENIX — One person was killed in a rollover crash involving DUI and excessive speed in the West Valley late Wednesday morning.

Phoenix police say a sedan collided with an SUV near 37th and Grand avenues.

Phoenix police say 63-year-old Dion Kelly died at the scene. Two other people in the vehicles were also injured.

Video from the scene showed two vehicles involved, including a Salt River Project vehicle that was heavily damaged and on its roof.

Officials say 20-year-old Richard Anderson was arrested after the incident. He was not seriously injured in the crash.

According to police documents, before the crash, an officer on traffic enforcement duty clocked Anderson at 145 miles per hour while traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue.

Anderson sped past officers and collided with the other vehicle.

He reportedly admitted to going 130 miles per hour at the time of the crash, saying he looked at the speedometer just before the collision.

Anderson also said he had smoked a vape pen with THC a few hours before the incident. He said he was driving at a “high rate of speed” to check mechanical work that was done on his vehicle.

Anderson was processed for a DUI and booked into jail. He is charged with two counts of endangerment and second-degree murder.
