Five people have been displaced after a Christmas tree caught fire at their home Monday.

Fire crews from Tolleson and Phoenix were called to the home near 93rd Ave and McDowell around 5 p.m.

Phoenix firefighters say one of the residents was home when the fire broke out and says a working smoke alarm saved his life.

The residents lost a pet cat in the fire that could not make it out in time.

Crews say the five are going to stay with family members who live close by.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
