Firefighters had their hands full battling a house fire in west Phoenix Thursday night.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. near 109th Avenue, just south of Camelback Road.

Phoenix Fire Department Captain Benjamin Santillan said when crews arrived on scene, they found a large, 2-story house with smoke and fire billowing from the 2nd floor balcony and bedroom.

Santillan said crews were able to successfully extinguish the fire.

Firefighters said no one was home when the fire broke out.

Neighbors heard the fire alarm and called the fire department.
