PHOENIX — It was a scary call today for firefighters in west Phoenix while battling flames at a home.
Crews were called to a house on Vernon Avenue, near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road this morning for reports of heavy smoke.
When they arrived they found flames shooting from the roof of the single-story home.
They quickly worked to get it under control but a strong wind fanned the flames. That forced them outside and into a defensive strategy.
A Mayday was called due to one firefighter being unaccounted for, but was quickly located outside and unharmed.
A family of four was displaced and is working with the Phoenix Fire Crisis Response to find somewhere to seek shelter.
Nobody was reported hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
