Police are searching for a man involved in an aggravated assault at Arizona State University West Campus in Phoenix.

ASU police alerted the public about an assault that occurred on Wednesday at a west campus community park on 1st Avenue between Thunderbird Road and Sweetwater Avenue.

According to Phoenix police, a woman called authorities after the suspect assaulted her. She told investigators that the suspect is her boyfriend and he was armed with a knife and held it to her throat.

The suspect is described as being a 31-year-old African American man, thin build and was last seen wearing blue jeans, no shirt with a full beard and multiple tattoos — including an "S" on each hand.

The man left the area on a skateboard, officials said. No additional information was immediately released.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Neither the suspect nor the victim are students at ASU, Phoenix police said. An investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-7626.

Earlier this month, ASU police said a victim was sexually assaulted at Hayden Hall, a dormitory on ASU’s Tempe campus.

In that incident, the victim and suspect know each other and met on a dating app, police said.
