Speeding driver crashes into stopped car in south Phoenix, woman hospitalized

A woman remains hospitalized after being struck by a speeding driver in south Phoenix on Saturday morning. 

According to the Phoenix Police Department, a 21-year-old man was driving his car at a high rate of speed westbound on Baseline Road around 6 a.m. 

Police say the driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a car that was stopped in a driveway, occupied by a 53-year-old woman. 

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital where she remains under medical care, according to police.

The 21-year-old driver was taken to the hospital after he suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Police say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

Criminal charges are pending the results of the investigation, police said.
