Police arrested a man Wednesday morning in Phoenix for allegedly stabbing his neighbor earlier this week over money.

According to court paperwork, 24-year-old Selwyn Welch got into a physical fight around 6 p.m. Monday with his neighbor in a home near Buckeye Road and 17th Avenue.

Court documents show the argument started over $30 the victim loaned to Welch more than a year ago.

During the fight, Welch grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed his neighbor several times, according to paperwork.

Both roommates of the victim reportedly saw Welch stabbing the victim. One of them then picked up a machete and struck Welch several times, court paperwork said.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and had surgery.

Welch was then identified in a photographic lineup by the victim.
