A suspect is in custody after allegedly firing at a police officer's vehicle and then attempting to get away by unsuccessfully carjacking other motorists.
Police said an undercover officer was driving in the area of 17th Street and Southern Avenue Wednesday morning when a motorist behind him shot at the officer's vehicle.
The officer tried to pull the driver over, but the suspect drove off.
The suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle near 24th Street and Southern and bailed. Police said the suspect attempted to take the cars of other people in the area, but failed. The man ran away where he was eventually placed in handcuffs and arrested.
Police said the officer was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but was otherwise uninjured. The person in the vehicle the suspect crashed into was also not hurt.
