A 35-year-old bicyclist is in the hospital after being hit by a truck in south Phoenix Friday night.

Crews were called to the scene near 39th and Southern avenues around 8:30 p.m.
Authorities say the man was not wearing a helmet and is listed in critical condition.

Officers at the scene said darkness could have likely played a role in the accident. There are no street lights where the crash occurred.
The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The victim is not being identified at this time.
