Phoenix officer bitten by burglary suspect during arrest

PHOENIX — A man is facing charges for an alleged burglary and assaulting an officer.

The Phoenix Police Department says around 1:00 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a burglary call in the area of 27th and Northern avenues.

When officers arrived they, with the help of a police helicopter, were able to locate the man based on a description provided to them.

He is being identified as 45-year-old Diago Nelson.

When officers tried to arrest Nelson authorities say he refused to listen to commands and began to fight back.

Additional officers were called to assist and Nelson was eventually arrested.

During the the fight an officer was bitten several times by Nelson, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and is facing charges of burglary, aggravated assault of an officer and resisting arrest.
