PHOENIX — A man was shot and killed by officers early Tuesday morning near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road, police say.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident started around midnight when officers attempted to stop a vehicle near 48th Street and Baseline Road. The driver reportedly failed to stop and fled the scene, but officers didn't pursue the vehicle.
Air patrol spotted the vehicle on the grounds of the Arizona Grand Resort nearby but reported that the driver had fled on foot from the area.
Police say they chased the driver on foot and at one point, the man produced a gun and a struggle over the weapon began with an officer. During the struggle, the man was shot by other officers who saw the struggle and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were hurt during the altercation and were wearing body cameras at the time.
Police have not identified the man that was shot and killed.
