PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a Valley man has been arrested for abusing a 6-month-old puppy.
Authorities say on August 8, Phoenix police and the Arizona Humane Society opened a joint investigation after seeing video of a man, later identified as Jose Beltran, abusing the dog.
Officers and AHS personnel went to Beltran's home near 39th Avenue and Buckeye Road and found the puppy with a laceration to his neck.
The puppy was taken to the Humane Society for treatment. During the evaluation, it was discovered that the dog also had a broken rib and a punctured tongue.
Beltran was arrested and booked into jail for animal cruelty and failure to provide medical treatment.
The puppy is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
