A Horizon High School teacher accused of inappropriately touching one of his students confessed to police shortly after his arrest, according to court documents.

Michael Sporrer, a 36-year-old band director at the school, was arrested on stalking and aggravated assault charges after police discovered a long string of text messages between him and a 15 year old girl.

Police said Sporrer texted "I love you" messages to the student and often asked what she was doing and whether she was alone.

Sporrer was arrested after the victim's parents looked through her cellphone and called police.

During his initial interview with officers, Sporrer admitted to driving by the victim's home several times, touching her inappropriately, and becoming jealous when the 15-year-old spoke with male students.

Sporrer was released on a $10,000 bond. During his court appearance, Sporrer told the judge that he is married with a child on the way.

Parents and students told ABC15 that Sporrer is a popular teacher.

"I was stunned. I was shocked. I mean I have known him since my daughter started here. I've known him since the middle school," said a parent at the school who declined to be identified.

District officials said Sporrer has been put on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
