Three Phoenix police officers were injured during an altercation with a man and woman on Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just before 3 p.m., officers responded to an area near 33rd Avenue and Bell Road for a report of a fight. 

Witnesses had reported that a man was physically assaulting a woman. 

As officers got on the scene, they located 34-year-old Mark A. Foster and tried to take him into custody. 

Police say Foster resisted and fought with officers.

During the altercation, police say the woman involved in the original fight, 28-year-old Vivian C. Thompson, approached the officers and kicked one of the officers on the head. 

The officer who was kicked was able to take Thompson into custody, police said. 

Foster reportedly kicked and punched officers. "less lethal options" were used and he was handcuffed arrested. 

Police say one of the officers involved in the altercation remains hospitalized. The other two officers were treated and released from the hospital.

Foster was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries suffered in the incident. He has been booked for aggravated assault of a police officer, assault, and resisting arrest. 

Thompson was booked for aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.
