Teen hit at bus stop by stolen vehicle suspect in north Phoenix

A 17-year-old was hit at a bus stop Tuesday morning by a stolen vehicle suspect, according to Phoenix police. The crash happened at a bus stop near 19th Avenue and Bell Road.

The victim was take to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Phoenix fire says initial reports indicate the victim was sitting at the bus stop when the crash happened. Prior to the crash, Phoenix police say officers located a burglary suspect who fled from them by stealing a waiting unoccupied pick-up truck.  

The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Matthew Jennings. 

Police say their air support watched Jennings drive to the area of 19th Avenue and Bell Road where he crashed into the bus stop. After the crash, the suspect drove a short distance until the pick-up truck caught on fire.

Employees at Bell Road Toyota chased after Jennings until police arrived.
