Sex offenders released from prison will no longer be taken to a temporary housing location in a North Phoenix neighborhood.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Corrections said they have been in communication with residents in the area who had expressed concerns over the temporary housing location in their neighborhood.

Effective Thursday, sex offenders will no longer be taken to the Maricopa Reentry Center off of I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road.

Instead, released sex offenders will participate in other programs and receive assistance that will help them reintegrate into society, according to the department.
