Several family pets killed in apartment fire

Investigators are trying to determine how an apartment fire that killed several family pets started overnight.

According to Phoenix Fire Department, a neighbor reported the blaze at an apartment complex near 13th Street and Cave Creek Road around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

When fire crews arrived, a unit had heavy fire coming from inside.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time, but four dogs, a cat, two fish, a bearded dragon and iguana were inside.

Three dogs were rescued from the blaze.

At this time, the cause of the fire is not known, but officials are investigating the scene.

The residents of the unit are now staying with family.
