Rider killed in motorcycle crash near 40th Street and Thunderbird

An investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in north Phoenix on Saturday afternoon. 

According to Phoenix police, just before 4 p.m., officers responded to 40th Street and Thunderbird Road for a report of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle. 

Police say the rider, an adult man, was traveling on 40th Street when it collided with the SUV as the vehicle was starting a left turn from Thunderbird Road. 

The rider, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police say the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers. Impairment is not suspected on the driver at this time, police said. 

The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.
