A barricade situation involving an armed man at a hotel near Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue has finally come to end.

The situation lasted over 15 hours on Tuesday, which ended in the arrest of 45-year-old Gary Laverne Minor.

He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle, endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, and discharging a firearm at a residence.

Phoenix police said officers forced entry into the hotel room after they heard a shot fired inside the room. Minor sustained minor injuries. No one else was injured.

According to police, the incident started at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday when officers tried to stop a vehicle near 27th and Dunlap avenues for a stolen license plate.

Minor reportedly fled, abandoned his truck near I-17 and Peoria, and ran into the hotel room, where he stayed with a female associate also inside.

When officers were searching the area for Minor, they received a call from Surprise police, who reported that the woman in the room was texting a family member and said that the suspect was armed and she was not free to leave the room.

Minor reportedly threatened to shoot officers in the immediate area during the barricade.

Police say rooms in the hotel were evacuated as a result of the barricade.

Officers briefly closed northbound I-17 between Dunlap and Peoria avenues for an hour to assist with safety and communications.
